Goa court nod for in-camera trial in rape case against Tarun Tejpal

A sessions court in Mapusa on Friday accepted former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal’s request, made under CrPC Section 327(2), to hold the assault procedures against him in-camera. Tejpal’s advice Pramod Kumar Dubey moved the application not long after the court of Judge Vijaya Pol took up the issue toward the evening.

Tejpal, blamed for assault by a then lady partner amid an occasion facilitated by the magazine in Goa in November 2013, was on Friday joined by seven relatives, including his better half and sibling Minty Tejpal. He was reserved under IPC Sections 376, 376(2)(f) and 376(2) (k). Goa Police’s Crime Branch introduced the chargesheet on February 17, 2014.

While the arrangement has advanced its case — sponsored by the casualty’s announcement, explanations of associates, and computerized proof, including a letter of expression of remorse by Tejpal — Public Prosecutor Francisco Tavora said the guard group will show their contentions on Friday and Saturday. The court will outline charges subsequently.

Appearing for Tejpal, advocate Rajiv Gomes had, in April, told the court that the safeguard had “adequate information” to subdue the allegations. Back at that point, Tavora had said that the resistance group had at first asked for film of all CCTV cameras from the Goa inn where the claimed wrongdoing occurred. “The recording… was given to them,” Tavora had said in April outside the court premises.

Guard legal counselors had looked for “clone duplicates” of the SIM card and telephone memory of the casualty’s telephone to gather messages sent and got, as likewise “erased”. While the scientific confirmation were given in delicate and printed versions, Tejpal’s advice told the court that they required “clone copies”.The clone duplicate of the material was given over to the guard legal counselors in March this year, Tavora said. Sources aware of points of interest of the two duplicates said the material proof continues as before.
