North Eastern team Shillong Lajong will be up against chart toppers East Bengal in an upcoming match on Saturday in Shillong. This match is one of the most crucial and rigorous one for the home team.
For Lajong, which has won five out of the last seven matches, a victory over Bengal’s team will set them up for a top-four finish in the I-League.
It will be a racer for sure as the two teams are very ambitious towards victory. While the visitors are aiming at a maiden victory, for the hosts it a crucial match to fulfil their ambitions in the league. While Lajong comes to the tie on the back of a 4-1 away win over Chennai City, East Bengal have completed their first-ever double over the defending champions Bengaluru FC through a 3-1 win in Bengaluru.
Realizing the importance and the challenge of the game, Lajong head coach Thangboi Singto said that “the match against East Bengal will be our biggest test so far”. “Till now we have beaten teams which are below us in the standings. To improve our position we have to beat sides which are ahead of us. So that way it’s a crucial match tomorrow,” Singto said in the pre-match conference, reported the Indian Express.
East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan said that his team will have their task cut out in Shillong. Asserting that there weren’t any extra pressures with the table-toppers tag on his team, Morgan said, “It’s all up to us. We know we are in a good position and we know what we need to do tomorrow. But nevertheless, we expect a very tough game.”To a query on East Bengal’s fair track record against Shillong Lajong, Morgan replied “We can’t hide behind a bad track record. We can’t give excuses.”
