L&T to convert Pune into Smart City

Larson and Toubro (L&T) has been given the project of converting Pune into a smart city. It has also been declared as its implementation partner. The letter of intent was given to the company’s smart world and communication business unit. It was handed over by the Municipal Commissioner of Pune Kunal Kumar. This is one of  the Prime Minister Narender Modi’s pet scheme.
After the execution of this project, Pune will have wifi at 200 locations across the city, environmental sensors, network connectivity, video analytic integration, emergency call boxes and public address systems.
According to the Financial Express, a Smart City Operation Centre (SCOC) will also be set up. It’s main function will be to integrate all its services and applications on a common platform. This development comes after L&T set up the largest surveillance project in Mumbai. They put up over 5,000 cameras in 1,500 areas in the city. They are also in the process of converting Nagpur into a smart city.
S.N . Subrahmanyan, President and Deputy Managing Director of L&T said,” We consider this mandate to make Pune smart as a reaffirmation of our capabilities in the area of creating a smart world”.
