The wait for the new Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister could extend as Mehbooba Mufti is unlikely to take oath as CM even next week.
The state is under a four day mourning period following the death of J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. Sources of NDTV have told that People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president and Mufti Sayeed’s daughter Mehbooba Mufti will be escalated to the post of J&K CM very soon but is unwilling to take oath immediately.
N N Vohra, Governor of J&K will have the control of the state till Mehbooba Mufti takes oath as the CM. This is the second time in the last year that governor’s rule is imposed in the state.
According to the reports, Congress president Sonia Gandhi will be visiting Srinagar tomorrow to offer condolences to Mufti Sayeed’s family. The PDP and Congress were allies in the past, but at present, PDP runs a coalition government in the state in alliance with BJP.
