The Jammu & Kashmir’s Special Operation Group (SOG) alongside with the Indian army called off an overnight operation against the militants in Chilli Pora village of Shopian district on March 4. No casualties were reported after the encounter was over.
The operation was started in the evening on March 3 after the officials received an information that two to three militants had been hiding in the village. The militants were ambushed by the SOG forces and security forces from 55 Rashtriya Rifles. The operation resulted in the crossfire when the militants fired at the force.
On March 4, around 9 AM the faces entered the house and did not find anyone. After searching for an hour more, the operation was called off. The Deccan Chronicle reported that the forces entered the area once they stopped receiving the response to the firing by the security forces. A police official said, “Apparently, the militants escaped during the night time.”
The Jammu & Kashmir police also launched a parallel operation to evacuate the civilians in the area. The locals reported that the forces used drone cameras to locate the position of the militants in the village and the flood lights were installed to keep a check on the militant’s activities.
