Ronaldo heroics earn Madrid a point at home

A lackluster display from Los Blancos cost them the first position at the league table as they manage to salvage a draw against a spirited Las Palmas side. Thanks once again to their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo who scored a brace at the dying embers of the game.

Real Madrid drew first blood as Isco made a clever run to receive a through ball from Mateo Kovacic and coolly slotted it past the keeper, Javi Varas. The visitors were quick to respond as Tana tied it up in Madrid with an outrageous turn leaving captain Sergio Ramos back at his heels.

Jese Rodriguez, the former Madrid man, had a point to prove to his ex-employers with his darting runs along the left side of the pitch but was left frustrated when he fed Kevin Prince Boateng on a silver platter, and still the Ghana international failed to test Keylor Navas.

Las Palmas was playing a defensive line, and neutralized both their wing backs forcing Madrid to narrow down their game. At the start of second half Gareth Bale lost his cool and earned two yellows in quick succession on the same man Jonathan Viera, to get ultimately sent off. The men in yellow scored the second from a spot kick, when Sergio Ramos handed the in the penalty box. Madrid defense payed heavily for another blunder, as Boateng this time did not fail to find the back of the net.

Zidane went all out attack and brought in James, Lucas and Benzema to inspire another historic comeback. But it was Ronaldo once who first converted a penalty of Castellano’s hand ball and then headed home a short corner to send the Madridistas to a frenzy at the Bernabeu. The visitors were made to bite the dust as they had definitely lost two points to an unforgiving Madrid side.
