Two Hindu men shot in Pakistan by unidentified gunmen

In the Ghotki district of Sindh province, gunmen shot down one Hindu man, and injured another. This incident occurred in the wake of the communally charged atmosphere, which was a result of the arrest of a man belonging to the minority community, who allegedly treated the pages of the holy Quran with sacrilege the previous day.

Police informed that a mob shot two Hindu traders at a tea stall in the Ghotki town of Mirpur Mathelo on Wednesday. “Deewan Satish Kumar, 17, died on the spot while Avinash was taken to a hospital in a critical condition” added senior superintendent of police, Masood Ahmed Bangash as quoted by the Times of India.
A complete shutdown was declared by religious parties namely Jamiat-Ulema-i-Islam Fazlur Rehman and Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat on demand of extremely strict punishment for the accused. This saw the day-to-day life being hindered with a turbulence in the district and towns including Daharki, Mirpur Mathelo, Ubauro and Khan Pur Mehar.

SSP Bangash told the TOI that over 150 protesters, who staged a demonstration, were put behind bars on charges of ransacking the shops of Hindus and clashing with the Police. With the tension gradually increasing, the local Hindu community decided to lock themselves in houses and requested the restoration of peace.
