Xiaomi’s entry level Android smartphone, Redmi 5A, is launching in India on November 30 after days of endless speculation and fervour. The event revealing ‘Desh ka Smartphone’ began at 12 PM IST (Indian Standard Time). The successor to the company’s Redmi 4A, Xiaomi Redmi 5A, has been selling in China for 599 Yuan (roughly Rs. 6000). However, it has a lower selling price of Rs. 4999 in India. The much-awaited event of the smartphone’s launch will be streamed live on the company’s website.
According to NDTV Gadgets, the smartphone’s greatest selling point lies in its extravagant ‘8-day battery life’ claim even though it possesses a 3000 mAh battery only. This is most probably a result of the efficient software optimisations in MIUI 9. It also houses impressive specifications like the 5 inch 720p HD screen powered by the Snapdragon 425 processor.
Multitasking duties will be handled by the smartphone’s 2GB RAM. It also boasts 16GB of internal storage which is expandable via MicroSD card (upto 128GB). The device comes equipped with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. Xiaomi’s custom ROM MIUI 9 is based on Android 7.1 Nougat.
The device’s new MIUI 9 offers a host of features like Smart Assistant, Smart App Launcher, Image Search, Quick Reply, Notifications Manager, Home Screen and Lock Screen enhancements and split screen multitasking. These features make it an attractive buy at the price point. The smartphone will be sold online exclusively on Flipkart. Furthermore, it will be available for purchase at the company’s retail stores and priority partners.
