JP Duminy quits test cricket

South African batsman JP Duminy announced his retirement from test cricket today, however, he also mentioned that he will continue playing the smaller version of the game. Duminy has scored 2000+ runs in 46 Tests at an average of 32.85. He said, “Test cricket has always been the pinnacle and I’ve been fortunate enough to experience some memorable highlights with the Proteas”.

Lately, in 2017 Duminy has been wobbly with his performance with the bat against New Zealand and did not perform well in the limited over games against Sri Lanka. The Delhi Daredevil batsman also opted out of the 10th edition of IPL citing “personal reasons”. Critics believe that Duminy was not able to convert the hidden talent inside of him into runs. He always remained susceptible to the short ball and off-spinners.

In total Duminy scored six hundreds in total, which came when the Proteas needed it the most. He would surely be remembered for his innings at Melbourne where the Kangaroos had reduced the Proteas to a pale 184/7 against their massive total of394. Duminy played alongside Dale Steyn for eight hours and managed to provide 64 runs lead to the visiting team.

With world cup two years down the line, retiring from the test cricket and focusing on the shorter format of the game, seems to be a wise decision.

Kolkata Knight Riders owners acquire Cape Town T20 franchise

Red Chillies Entertainment owner Shah Rukh Khan has acquired the Cape Town franchise of T20 Global League (TGL), an initiative of Cricket South Africa (CSA) on the lines of Indian Premier League. The actor secured the franchise along with his co-owners of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR)

CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat announced the names of the owners at an event in London yesterday. While more than 150 Expressions of Interest (EOI) were received for team ownerships, only eight were shortlisted, of which two were Indian, and other two were of Indian origin.

Venky Mysore, the CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment and KKR praised the cricket loving public of Cape Town, and announced the launch of Cape Town Knight Riders. The South African star player JP Duminy will be the team’s marquee player. Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter to express his joy after winning the bidding.

This is the third cricketing franchise of Red Chillies Entertainment, owned by Khan, and Mehta Group (actress Juhi Chawla and her husband, Jay Mehta) across the world. The other Indian franchise owner is GMR Group, a Bangalore-based infrastructural company which also owns the IPL team of Delhi Daredevils.
